When is the Best Time to Start a Weight Loss Campaign?

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Roy Thomsitt With the high level of obesity in some countries, and the health dangers it attracts, there are millions of people who have weight loss on their minds. Many of those will know they should lose weight, and may even realise they could be seriously ill if they do not. Yet, even when they have decided to lose weight they put off the start date. Consequently, they make no serious attempt to bring down their weight. Commonly, people look into the near future, and see an occasion when they will want to indulge in food. Once autumn arrives, the sniff of Thanksgiving turkey and a Christmas feast cause many to delay their weight loss program until the New Year. Then the New Year arrives and they reinforce their timing decision with a New Year’s resolution. But all their friends break their resolutions so it is easy for them to break their’s too. Anyway, it’s the depths of winter, and depressing with the cold and dark, so they sit indoors eating to keep themselves happy. “Aah, let’s start in the spring.” By spring there are more likely to be wedding feasts, garden parties, or lots of other excuses to delay starting a weight loss campaign. The same is true of summer, and then the cycle starts all over again. Procrastination rules; the weight and health risks grow. So, when is the best time to start a weight loss diet? The answer to that is immediately. If you find reason to delay, then you do not have the mental resolve to lose weight sufficiently and permanently. You are creating a problem that will not go away. So, start convincing yourself now, and begin the search for the best way for you to attain a healthy weight. If it is coming up to autumn when you read this, that is great; if you can overcome temptation during the heavy eating holiday season, then you have a good chance of being a weight loss success. Procrastinate, and you are doomed to long term failure. This weight loss program article was written by Roy Thomsitt, owner and part author of the Routes To Self Improvement website. Consider PVC Deck Flower Railings

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Andrew Caxton Many people are stuck for ideas when it comes to improving their deck area. The good news is that there are many things that can be done to add that extra something special to the overall look of the deck. One of these things is a box deck flower railing which can look very impressive. It helps to give your decking area that sophisticated and finished look and it also helps to improve the atmosphere. The deck is a place where people can escape, so it needs to be somewhere that makes you feel happy with the way that it looks. Adding extra to the deck railings can help you to really enjoy the surroundings a lot more. Something that can also help is by creating planters on the deck. PVC railings There are many different materials that can come into the equation with box deck flower railings and one of them is PVC. The reason that PVC is a great material to use is because it doesnt splinter and it does not heat up like other materials do. This is great because you are unlikely to get burnt by it if you touch it on a very hot day. Not only this but PVC is resistant to ultra violet light and because of this, it will not fade over time. Not to mention that PVC is also waterproof and it is easy to manage. Because of all these great benefits, this really does make PVC a great choice when it comes to a box deck flower railing. So, it has been established that PVC is great but something else that is also good is wood. A wooden box deck flower railing offers a brilliant and classic look and feel to it. There are many different types of wood that you can use in order to get the look that you require. Each will offer its own unique look so it all goes down to personal preference on what you prefer. Cedar is a great example of a good wood as it has natural preservatives and it is resistant to decay and from insects too. It is also better against moisture than most other woods are. Have You Considered Composite Woods? Another great wood to use would be composite woods because they offer beauty without lots of maintenance worries. They are also resistant to water, decay and also insects too. On top of all this, they will not splinter so they are a great material to use for box deck flower railings. So, no matter what ever your situation, whether you live in a rural place with a nice view or overlooking an estate, box flower deck railings will certainly add something special to your deck. The Women Issue

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Michael Tummillo The following message entitled THE WOMAN ISSUE is a study for those who truly desire to examine what Scripture says on a very controversial subject: the role of women in the Church. This would make a great bible study or forward the message to church leadership. We will be using The Law of Scriptural Interpretation: every Scripture must be interpreted in light of other Scriptures on the same subject; it must harmonize with all other verses used as we compare spiritual with spiritual, (1 Cor.2:13). Ready? Here we go! I’m often asked my perspective on the role of women in the Church. My response? I think women should be silent…unfortunately, God does not seem to agree with me (Note to self: Serve God, but NOT as a consultant). Many denominations forbid women to teach, preach, or even testify to the grace of God in their lives. Some groups may let women teach other women, but there remain legions of Jesus-loving women who feel a fire burning within themselves to share their relationship with God with anyone who will listen. Yet they are silenced by their denomination’s interpretation of the Scriptures, or by their manmade traditions. Let’s take a look at the two verses typically addressed to support the interpretation that women are to be silent, 1 Corinthians 14:34-36; 1 Timothy 2:11,12. Paul was not expressing his own opinion in these two verses. Whose commands did he say he was expressing? See 1 Corinthians 14:37,38. Was Paul a sexist, as some say? After all, he never married (1 Corinthians 7:25-40). He advises celibacy because of v. 26, the persecution of the church atthe time. Also, being single gives one the freedom to devote oneself entirely to God. See Hebrews 13:4, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, and Titus 1:5-10. If Paul was the President of the He-Man-Woman-Hater’s Club, or was an advocate that all ministers be celibates, he would have said so. See Romans 16:1,2. Note the word “servant,” from the Greek, diakonos…deacon or deaconess, in English. Paul instructed the men and women in Rome to ASSIST her in her work. See Romans 16:3,4. Priscilla is mentioned BEFORE her husband, something not typically done in Middle Eastern culture. Read v.6 about Mary, also a hard-working “servant” (deaconess). See Romans 16:12, these two girls served the Body, too. See Romans 16:13…referring to an important woman, or a hard-working servant to the Body? In Ephesians 5:21-33, Paul illustrates how marriage illustrates the Church. The Body of Christ being a lovely young woman, a living organism, not an organization, to be structured and departmentalized. This Bride is awaiting the day she can look into the loving eyes of her Bridegroom’s precious face, the Lord Jesus. He describes the Body, with its many parts, every one of them necessary for the good of the whole. See Colossians 3:19…does this sound like a sexist Woman-hater? When we read 1 Corinthians 11:13, at first glance, it sure looks like the Scripture intends for men to be “over’ women. Looks like it. But when we read 1 Corinthians 11:3, we see plainly that a man is head of but ONE woman, his wife! (Sorry, ladies, God’s plan, not mine! Read on…we’re about to discuss submission. I assure you, you’ll like it. God has only your best interests at heart). See Ephesians 5:21. Here the Church is admonished to submit to one another. The Church gets hung up on v.22, “wives, submit to your own husbands” and v.23, “the husband being head of the wife, as Christ is Head of the Church.” We fellas tend to skim over v.25, however, the part about “giving ourselves up (dying)” for her. Gulp! Dying? Literally, if necessary. Most men would bravely say that they would lay down their lives for their lady. Ok, guys, you’ll die for her. Will you LIVE for her, too, laying aside the things that mean most to you for the sake of your marriage? See, marriage is a conscious decision to put to death “self.” No more “I, Me, or Mine.” You’re ONE flesh now. “You,” singular, are now “you,” plural. By “submission,” does the Scripture imply that we should lord over each other, or get along, in love? See 1 Corinthians 11:3 in comparison to Phil 2:5-9. As Jesus did, it is an act of WILL to take a subordinate position for the good of the whole. A lesson for the Church: Submission = POWER! When we read Ephesians 2:4-6, we see that Jesus is not UNDER the Father…He’s at His right hand, EQUAL! See John 17:21. Jesus prayed that the Church would be “one.” Do you see how the anti-woman interpretation BINDS instead of loosens the female segment of the Church? In John 8:32, Jesus declared, “And they shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Religion, literally interpreted means “a return to bondage.” Yes, it’s the traditions of man that make the Word of God of no effect (Mark 7:13). See Galatians 3:28 and 1 John 3:2. No male or female? All of us referred to as ’sons’ (translates as children, even adopted children). Are male children any more significant than females? Even in 1 Peter 3:6, though we see that Sarah obeyed Abraham, did she not have a right to speak her mind? Of course she did. She wasn’t his slave. Read Genesis 16:5,6. Did Sarai (Sarah) get her way? Yes.In fact, Chapters 16-21 are an account of their disagreement. And her husband gave in! In fact, in Genesis 21:10-12, God actually told Abe to listen to his wife. See 1 Samuel 1. Hannah spoke her mind, too. See 1 Samuel 25:32,33 and see how Abigail reasons with King David. You go, girls! See Ephesians 5:24. Read the phrase “in everything?” Christians, let’s resist the temptation to take an isolated text to build a doctrine. If what a spouse commands you to do is a sin, don’t do it (James 4:17)! We must obey God rather than man (Acts 5:29). Filter that which is questionable through the Scriptures. For those who are looking for a reason to leave their spouse, read 1 Corinthians 7:15 in relation to1 Peter 3:1-7. The ball seems to fall in the court of the one who considers themselves more spiritual to “win the soul” (mind, will, emotions) of the other by their godliness. The Greek word for submit is hupotasso, to submit oneself to another. Willfully! In 1 Cor 16:16 and Ephesians 5:21,22, the disciples were encouraged to submit to one another. Submission does NOT equal slavery. They should try to please each other as much as possible, avoid disputes, contentions, divisions. Better to love than to be right. See 1 Corinthians 14:34-36. In Greek, there’s only one word for “man”, none for husbands. Same with “woman.” One word; none for wife. Verse 34 is not referring to ALL women, just wives. See verse 35. “Let the wives keep silent in the assemblies…let them ask their husbands at home…” See 1 Timothy 2:11-15. Paul is referring only to wives, referring to learning and asking questions (1 Cor 14:35;1 Tim 2:11). The Greek word to be used is gyne, meaning “wife,” not “woman.” See 1 Corinthians 11:5. Was Paul so illogical as to tell girls they could pray or prophesy in the 11th Chapter but tell them to be quiet in the 14th? See Acts 2:16-18 in relation to Joel 2:28. Sons AND daughters, it says! See Acts 1:13,14. It refers to 120 PEOPLE in the upper room. Verse 14 specifically states that they ALL joined together, “along with the women” constantly in prayer. Upper room? It may as well have referred to aliving room, an auditorium…anywhere, including your next Christian assembly! See Acts 10. Peter went to the house of Cornelius, upon the Lord’s instructions (v.19-20). Cornelius had been told by an angel to send for Peter (v. 4-6). Verse 24 says Cornelius ‘had called together his relatives and close friends.’ Do you suppose there were any females among his friends and family, too? Of course! The Holy Spirit showed up, Peter preached, and the whole crowd was water baptized, women, too. Sounds like quite a church service! See Luke 1:39-42 and notice how Elizabeth prophesied. Mary does the same in v. 46-55. Also in Luke, read Chapter 2:36-38 about Anna, a prophetess. See Acts 18:26. Some would say, “Well, ok…maybe a woman can teach ONE man but no more than one!” Really? That’s like saying it’s OK to steal one dollar, but not ten! Read Acts 18:26 again the three were gathered in His name! Two guys, one girl. They were BEING the Church, and not a stained glass window or padded pew in sight. See Psalms 68:11. The Hebrew word translated “company” is feminine…it means “women.” Guess what, guysthe first to go tell about the resurrected Jesus? A woman evangelist (John 20:18)! See 1 Corinthians 11:3-16. Wear a veil? Is it binding everywhere for all time? Paul does not say it’s irreverent or displeasing to God for a woman’s head to be uncovered. If he had, there’d be no escape from this command and, ladies, you’d have to cover up. When we read 1 Corinthians 11:3-7, we can see the cultural propriety as to why men take their hats OFF in our culture when entering a church. It’s cultural manners, not scriptural command, and we do this inside any public building. Well, we used to. Jewish men COVER their heads in synogogue. Muslims take off shoes. “Tradition!” The veil, or covering, referred to in these verses refers to the acknowledging of someone visibly present, a man’s ‘head.’ The women didn’t dishonor God by not covering her head, but her husband who was visibly present. The veil symbolized subjection. It’s why brides wear veils still today, even in our culture. So, in short, it’s: 1. not irreverant 2. not displeasing to God 3. the custom of the day, wise to abide by such for harmony’s sake 4. Paul’s appeal to naturalness in hair-style (maybe he liked long hair?) See 1 Timothy 2:9,10 and 1 Peter 3:1-5 in light of today’s fashions. Fashion has a greater power than modesty. This basic principle is involved: don’t spend so much time on OUTWARD appearance…it’s your spirit-condition that matters! Don’t give the appearance of evil or cause another’s mind to wander into the gutter. Mature Christians can show their maturity by not condemning those who do not know better; set a godly example-don’t heap rules upon new disciples. A famous evangelist once said, “that first glance is ‘free’after that, we’re accountable.” Folks, don’t cause a brother or sister to stumble just because you think you look great in that certain outfit. See Deuteronomy 22:5. Basically, a woman should be feminine whether in slacks or a dress. The bible doesn’t specify. Again, stay away from traditions that bind to rulesrather than to a relationship to God. In closing, don’t let tradition or legalism get in the way of loving one another. Fact is, our focus is so much on maintaining order (crowd control) within the four walls of a “church,” we are inclined to forget that WE are the Church. Friends, we’re human BEings, not human DOings. Let’s BE the church; it’s NOT something you “do.” Frankly, all too often, we settle for appearing to be good “rule-followers” and prefer that all new converts give that same impression in our churches as an inadequate replacement for true discipleship. We can, and must, do better. There you go, ladies. Thou art loosed! Now, let’s all get busy about our Father’s business! Need pastoral counseling and prayer? Choosing The Right Garden Parasol To Protect You And Your Family

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Jenny Edwards Whether you love dining al fresco with family and friends or just lounging on a garden steamer with a glass of iced tea enjoying your gardens beauty, make sure you shade yourself from the unpredictable British summer weather with a garden parasol. Parasols help you to avoid those harmful UVB rays of the sun around noon which can cause heat related disease and may also affect the immune system and also shelter from the summer showers that are infamous with the UK weather by shading you and your family. The UK market for garden leisure products is growing rapidly so you can now find parasols in a wide variety of styles, materials and colours that will complement your natural surroundings. People spend a long time choosing garden furniture so they can create the perfect ambience for their outdoor space, from elegant French bistro sets to contemporary glass and wood dining sets; and the right parasol will compliment any garden furniture whilst helping to keep it from deteriorating from sun and rain exposure. The style you choose is obviously important to suit the look and feel of your garden. There are a myriad of traditional style parasols; round, square, oblong, with fringes, to name but a few so there is definitely something for everyone. Air vents in the roof of the canopy are recommended so the wind can flow through the parasol and stop it from swaying to violently in strong gusts and extras such as suede corners on the canopy will ensure a longer life span for the material. Creams and greens are more traditional colours for canopies as they blend effortlessly with the colours of the garden but if you feeling adventurous or want to make a real design statement why not try a deep blue or red. One major tip is to make sure that the canopy is easy to clean so you can keep it looking like new without having to constantly bring it indoors after each use. Choosing the construction of the pole is important for durability, rot resistance and matching with your furniture style. Materials such as bamboo are aesthetically pleasing but will obviously not have the same life span as a hardwood or aluminium pole, which if treated properly will last for many years. There are also different mechanisms available for raising and lowering the canopy. Wind up systems are possibly the easiest to use as they take the least amount of effort and look stunning when finished in materials like brass. Pulley and peg systems are also readily available and very traditional. Irrespective of what type of garden you have, be it an English country cottage type or a Japanese minimalist look, relax and enjoy the lazy pleasures of the outdoors at any time of the day with the protection of a beautiful garden parasol. Do Contemporary Universities Suffer From a Type of Cancer

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Kadence Buchanan Biologists and medical practitioners have proven through extensive scientific research and testing that every living organism renews its cells as it gradually matures. If we accept Proust’s metaphor that “a nation is a huge organized accumulation of individuals,” then when cultural norms change so does the nation as a whole entity. Based on this assumption, a nation, a country, or generally any type of society, can be characterized by its critics as “sick” if its constituent cells change their previous status with unknown consequences. Under this realm, the crisis contemporary universities have been experiencing must be the outcome of the detected changes in people’s values, norms, priorities and ideology. Thus, as the individual cells change their role, critics have denoted a new type of “sickness” in the academic environment, a new type of “cancer,” which according to scholars like Miller and Miyoshi, has to be treated adequately before it completely destroys the institutions’ primary educational purpose. Like a human organism is constructed by smaller portions of matter, the contemporary university is an accumulation of students, professors, administrators and many more stakeholders, like corporations. These groups share the grounds of an institution and strive to accomplish various goals. In the past, although different views existed and dissensus was present, the unity of the overall institution was not jeopardized. Unfortunately today, due to the socioeconomic changes fostered by the capitalistic hegemony, contradictory interests have divided the various university groups threatening unity under the broad academic umbrella. But is there something wrong with corporate intervention and why has it managed to create a crisis of this magnitude? Do universities suffer from “cancer”? Especially in counties, like the United States, where the majority of the academic institutions are private, a university is considered as another type of legal entity with similar economic interests as that of a corporation in any industry. Universities, although non-profit institutions, have not only to survive, but also to prosper, as they compete in a fierce environment using as their unique-selling-point the mere knowledge they teach. As a matter of fact, Universities today have seized to be agents of free knowledge and truth, altering their nature to that of a corporation. This is an undisputable fact, which is the route under this whole crisis. Additionally, as the individual cells of this living organism have realized the impact and the degree of the 21st century’s economic changes, they have began to invest to this new role of the contemporary university, seeing it as the adequate preparation field for highly trained consumers and managers. Returning to the original question, whether contemporary universities suffer from “cancer” or not, in my opinion the answer is yes. This realization is not as provocative as it sounds. Universities have realized their power to foster change, not necessarily with a rebellion nature, the academic institutions of the West are about to step forward and propose a new type of educational mode. This new role of the contemporary university may not be revolutionary, as neither were the interdisciplinary studies at the time that they were originally introduced, but it will be radical and forceful in nature and scale as its primary focus will be the critical judgment of its own role and its principles will be based on the fundamental value of respect and the notion of accepting and requiring diversity. Not because it better sells the new character promoted by the institution, but because through different academic backgrounds and views, true innovation can be generated. Dissatisfied With Your Job? Stop Putting Your Attention on What You Don’t Want!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Doreen Banaszak If I were to ask you the percentage of time you spend thinking about what you dont want, what would it be? And the percentage of time thinking about what you do want? Experience with my clients has shown me that most of us spend a lot more time thinking about what we dont want. Some examples when it comes to our job include: -I hate my commute. -I am not challenged at my job. -I wish I didnt have to travel so much. -I miss my family. -I have no energy. -I dont get paid enough. And the list goes on and on. By the end of the day we have spent on average 70-80% of the day thinking about things we dont want. Now, what happens when we put our attention on things? They usually come to pass right? Have you ever been really clear on something you wanted, thought about it, took action to get it and finally got it? Well the same works for the things you dont want. The more attention you put on them, the more you get of them.If you want to get out of work that doesnt satisfy you and find work that does, then you will need to take your attention off of the things that keep you dissatisfied and put it on what you think will satisfy you. The best way to do that? Turn your dont wants into do wants - The list above is all about things you dont want, simply flip them into things you do: -I hate my commute becomes, I want a short commute. -I am not challenged at my job becomes, I want a job that challenges me. -I wish I didnt have to travel so much becomes I want a job where I dont have to travel so much. -I miss my family becomes, I want a job that has better work life balance. -I have no energy becomes, I want a job that gives me energy. -I dont get paid enough becomes, I want a job that pays me what I think Im worth. By doing this you are starting to create a picture of where you want to go next. Now you will start to get thoughts, ideas, circumstances people and events that will support what you want. Thinking about your dont wants just invites more of the same. Client experience has also shown that as soon as you start to put your attention on what you do want, you inevitably start saying one word more often than notBUT. A sure fire way to stay where you are is to put your attention on what you dont want and when you do think about what you do want, negate it immediately with but. I want a short commute, but Ill never find the job I want close to home. You know what? Youre right because you wont take another step to find it. Eliminate but from your vocabulary when it comes to putting your attention on what you want. Simply replace it with, I will need to. -I want a short commute, but I will never find the job I want close to home becomes I want a short commute. I will need to search for a job I want closer to home. When you use the word but you hit a wall. You dont take another step because you dont see another step. When you replace it with, I will need to now you have a project, a next step. If you really want to create work that satisfies you, then start putting your attention on what you do want and stop using the word but. Taking these two simple steps will get you moving and into a career that really satisfies you faster then you can say, but Ill never find a career that really satisfies me. Jum Meets A Lady From Arkansas

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Beverly Hart Jum rode tall in the saddle as he entered the town of Lightning. Some folks thought the community of 300 people was destined to be a center of trade. Already boasted a bank and grocery store and 3 churches, but the train bypassed Lightning by ten miles. Jum thought that would keep Lightning from developing. What did he know He knew her name was Madge. He knew little else about her. No need in knowing more as there was little chance he would see her again. It never occurred to Jum that he could be considered handsome. At twenty-six years of age he stood well over six foot with blue eyes that sparkled in stark contrast to the dark coloring of his Cherokee heritage. Jum had little time for ladies as he helped Ma as much as he could. That was his choice; not Ma’s. Ma said she could take care of herself. Ma said God would provide. Jum hoped so; they sure couldn’t count on Pa. Matter of fact, no one even knew where Pa was most of the time. Pa would show up when they had all decided he was dead for sure. Fact was that Ma had six kids and no man in the house. Ma took in washing and ironing and cleaned houses. Sometimes, she chopped wood with Jum. Ma sure could work considering she weighed less than 100 pounds. Jum couldn’t concentrate. He wondered if he was “normal.” He shouldn’t be that nervous about meeting this girl. His mind wandered as he thought about his recent date with Chantelle. Jum decided he STILL didn’t know what made her so persnickety. He had acted like a gentleman, leastways how he thought gentlemen were supposed to act. Not that he had ever seen a “real” gentleman, much less been around one for any length of time. He had arranged it so everything would be perfect when he went to call on Chantelle. Everyone knew the smithy had the prettiest horse-drawn buggy in Smithville. Jum worked for the smithy one week in exchange for the use of the buggy for one afternoon. Jum had dressed in his best clothes before going to Chantelle’s house. She was ready to go when he arrived. “No, you don’t really need to meet my parents,” Chantelle had said. ” That really isn’t necessary. We, modern girls don’t go in for that old fashioned stuff any more.” Jum thought he really should meet her folks. But, Chantelle ought to know. She had fixed a picnic lunch. Jum thought the basket was not like any basket he had ever seen. This one had cloth in it and there were plates and cups and silverware packed in it. And the food! Why, he had never seen so much fried chicken, potato salad, and apple pie! Jum remembered feeling guilty and wishing Ma and the kids could have shared it. But, he didn’t say a word about that to Chantelle. After eating, Chantelle wanted to ride in the buggy. Time sure went quickly. Five hours had passed before he knew it! Chantelle did say she needed to be heading home before too long. He drove up the river to Lightning before turning the buggy east toward Smithville. As they neared Smithville, Jum thought Chantelle seemed sort of jittery or nervous. “Chantelle, are you okay?” He finally managed to say. “Why, yes,” Chantelle replied. “l was just wondering. You haven’t said much the last two or three miles.” ” Well, to be honest, I really do need to find a rest room pretty soon.” she said. Jum remembered replying, “Whatsa matter? Ya tired?” He would carry the look on her face to his grave. How was he to know that was what city folks called an indoor bathroom? He had heard of them, but he had sure never seen one! Chantelle told him that the Smithville Chamber of Commerce had a rest room. They were within two blocks of it. Shortly, Jum stopped the buggy and helped Chantelle get down. After Chantelle returned, Jum took her home. He didn’t ask her if he could see her again. And here he was on his way to meet another girl! Jum’s cousin, Ben, had just married a girl from Arkansas. Ben’s bride had two sisters; the youngest was unmarried and living with Ben and his wife. Jum sort of had the idea her father had sent her to Oklahoma to encourage her to quit seeing someone in Arkansas. He also had heard rumors of fur collars, silk stockings, and patent leather shoes. Jum had also heard that Madge’s dad had lost almost all his savings in the “Crash”. Depression is what politicians were calling it. Just what he needed, to play second fiddle to someone he had never seen! Jum figured Ben really just wanted him to give him and his bride an afternoon alone. Okay with Jum. Jum knew it would take a miracle for him be able to support a wife as long as Pa wasn’t around. He also knew he couldn’t live with himself if he didn’t help Ma and the kids. Before he knew it, he found himself at Ben’s house. They were all sitting on the front porch. When he dismounted, he knew immediately which was Madge. Madge had brown wavy hair, big gray eyes and she acted like she wanted nothing to do with him! When she stood up, she didn’t even come up to his shoulder. He was 6′ 4″ and she was at least 12 ” shorter! Jum did not have the money to rent a fancy buggy to take this lady for a ride. “Would you like to go for a walk?” he finally asked her. “Sure”, she said. They left the horse in the lot beside the barn and took off toward town. Jum noticed how she had to really work at keeping up with his stride, so he slowed without saying a word. If she noticed, she never mentioned it. Cousin Ben lived in tiny Lightning, so it didn’t take long to walk the length of Main Street. “Would you like to walk to the creek?” Jum asked. She sure didn’t say much, he thought. Couldn’t tell if she was upset or just quiet. Gosh, Jum sure wished he knew more about women! After walking about about thirty minutes, they reached the creek and decided to sit on the grass and rest a bit. Jum couldn’t help but think that this girl was different from Chantelle, but every bit the lady. A lady would never want to see Jum again. He couldn’t blame her. Might as well enjoy the afternoon, he thought. “Do you have a family?” Madge asked. Jum thought about lying. But, he had to be honest. “Well, yes, I do. I have a Ma and 6 younger brothers and sisters. I don’t live with them. I do help them a lot.” “Is your Pa dead?” she asked. Natural question, Jum thought. “No, he ain’t dead. Least if he is, we don’t know it. He just isn’t around much.” Quietly, Madge said, “You know, a man that will take help take care of his Ma and little brothers and sisters is a True Gentleman.” Jum couldn’t believe his ears. A lady thought he was a gentleman! He had never been so happy in his life! Just to have Madge by his side as he walked her home. Somehow, he knew this was not the last time he would be seeing Madge. Perhaps Ma was right after all. God would provide. Another true story written about the author’s parents. Set in the midst of Depression Poverty, true family values triumph! How To Obtain A Personal Loan With Bad Credit

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Nic_Ricciuti]Nic Ricciuti Due to an increasing need for loans, bad credit personal loans are now made available for people with a less than desired credit score. A bad credit score implies a history of missing payments, making late payments, exceeding credit limits or filing for bankruptcy. The best way of obtaining such loans is to first do your research. Different lenders offer different rates, therefore thorough market research is imperative. You must also be aware of your credit score. This information will be needed when you present your personal circumstances to the lender. Obviously, the better your credit score, the better your loan rates will be. A borrower should apply for a bad credit loan only after you have not been approved for a loan from several financial institutions. Most often, a person seeks a bad credit loan to consolidate their debt. Bad credit loans are now easily available on the Internet. Instructions and forms for such loans are not long or complicated. Bad credit personal loans are available in two forms, secured and unsecured. Secured loans are best suited for homeowners. These loans require collateral security. Items such as real estate, automobiles and in some cases jewelry can be used as collateral. If the borrower defaults on payment, the lender is then free to sell the security. Unsecured loans do not require collateral. These loans have higher interest rates because they are not backed by any collateral security. There are other types of bad credit loans available today. Some are in the form of payday loans or cash advance loans. Their main advantage is that they do not require a credit check of any kind. However, only small amounts can be borrowed and must be paid using your next paycheck. Other forms of bad credit loans are car loans or debt consolidation loans. Bad credit loans in many forms are now readily available. They can provide solutions to money problems and give an opportunity to improve your credit score at the same time. Crafting for Profit and Pleasure - is it Possible?

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Louise Longworth Spending your time doing what you love and getting paid for it seems like the ultimate dream job, but as you start crafting for profit, the pleasure can so easily wither away. Once you’re a professional crafter, your focus is on your business and making money, and your creativity and enjoyment usually suffers first. When you first start selling your crafts you get such a buzz from it! But what happens when you are making that same item again and again (and again!) You started crafting because you enjoy the creative process, but now you feel like a factory worker, just churning stuff out. And then there are those customers who want something different. ‘Great!’ you think, ‘a chance to create something unique again.’ But it’s the customer who ends up ‘designing’, while you just follow orders and assemble it. Again, you’re back in the factory! Finally, you hit a quiet period and have a chance to create some new designs and ‘do your own thing’ again. And what happens? Your muse deserts you and you go completely blank. You can’t for the life of you think of anything new to do, and don’t even know where to start. Does any of this sound familiar? I’ve been through each of these stages and they’re no fun - you end up wondering why you ever wanted to sell your crafts in the first place! But it doesn’t have to be this way. Over the years I’ve developed some tricks to pull me out of these slumps and back into creative heaven. Firstly, to avoid the boredom that often comes with crafting for profit, see whether any of these ideas will work for you: Reward yourself with creative sessions. For every day spent doing the more repetitive jobs, give yourself a few hours of fun crafting. This way you’ll be motivated to finish the boring stuff quickly. Also alternate custom orders with time spent letting your creativity go wild. As custom orders aren’t particularly time efficient anyway, you don’t necessarily need to do all of them together in one session. Perhaps reward yourself for every custom order finished with a block of time to do your own thing. Make sure you account for the extra time custom orders take in your pricing (including time spent sourcing materials) in order to make it worth the hassle. You’re much less likely to become dissatisfied if you’re being richly rewarded! You could consider limiting yourself to doing one-offs or limited editions. That way the customer gets extra value for their purchase and you don’t get fed up doing the same thing over and over. Or if this isn’t practical for you in terms of earning a good income, consider doing this for just a selection of your crafts. When you have to make lots of the same item, get a production line going. Once you know an item sells well, rather than having to replace it every other day, put in one really good session and make loads. OK, so it will be even more tedious while you’re doing it, but you’ll get them finished much quicker this way, and then won’t have to make any more for ages! Outsource the production of popular items. That way you can pay someone to replicate your popular designs while you concentrate on creating new ones. And if you’ve run out of inspiration, here are some ideas for getting it back: As a preventative measure, set aside a block of time (daily or weekly) that is purely creative time. Don’t worry about whether what you’re making will sell or not, and don’t think about the other things you need to do, just throw yourself into doing whatever feels good. I find that once I start I get carried away with all sorts of new ideas! Read books and magazines about your crafts. This feels wonderfully indulgent, and you may think time spent reading is wasted, but it’s so important in order to generate new ideas and to keep abreast of new techniques and trends. So when you’re feeling a bit jaded, grab a cup of coffee and settle down with your favourite (craft related) glossy. Invest in some new and different materials or supplies. I always get excited when a parcel full of new beads arrives, and can’t wait to try them out! Have a clear out. You’ll find things you’d forgotten you had, and seeing your materials arranged differently can often inspire you to try new combinations or techniques that you haven’t thought of before. Take a course. Learning a new technique, or brushing up on old ones can help you rediscover your inspiration. And you’ll find it refreshing to mix with others who are excited about the same craft as you. When you’re crafting for profit, you do need to resign yourself to some of the less exciting tasks, but do everything you can to keep yourself at your creative best. If you don’t love what you’re doing, it will show in your work. Don’t feel guilty about treating yourself to a craft magazine subscription, a day off, or whatever else you need to keep those creative juices flowing, because as a professional crafter you are the number one asset in your business!
