Jobs - Paper Boy

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Michael Russell Okay, don’t laugh. It’s a job and it can be a darn good paying one if you have a good route. Being a newspaper delivery boy isn’t what it used to be many years ago. Today, newspapers are much more efficiently run and the delivery services themselves have been upgraded drastically. Today’s paper boy doesn’t work anywhere near as hard as the paper boy of the 1970s. So if you’re thinking this is something that you don’t want to do, you might think differently after reading this review of exactly what a paperboy does and gets paid. Paper boys of the 21st century have it made. Of course this isn’t a job that a 10 year old is going to be able to do anymore, at least not if he wants to make the big bucks. Today’s paper routes are much larger than they were years ago. So in order to work today’s routes you’re going to need a car, preferably one with a lot of trunk space. An SUV, van or truck may even help. Years ago, a route was maybe 100 papers. Today, a route can be up to 1000 papers if you get a really good route. The first thing you need to do is contact the local newspaper in your area and tell them you want to route. They’ll ask you where you live and try to assign you one that is close by. They will ask you if you have a vehicle. When you get hired, they will give you a destination to go to in order to pick up your papers. Yes, you do have to pick them up yourself. They don’t deliver them to your door. On normal days there won’t be anything more to do than to pick up the papers and throw them in your car. But on Sundays things are a little different. The Sunday paper comes in sections and before you can deliver each paper you have to put the sections together. This can be very time consuming, so on Sunday you better be prepared to get up a little earlier and work a little longer. But it’s worth it because the Sunday papers are very expensive today and the commissions you get on them are very nice. After the papers are put together you will have a route sheet to look at. This will have the addresses of every subscriber. You better either know the area well or have a map with you or you’re going to get very lost and your job is going to take you all day to complete. This is not good when you have people who are expecting their paper by 7 AM. After you have delivered all your papers, you return home and report in to the main office that the route for that day has been completed. They’ll ask you the time of completion and how long it took you. If they see you’re taking longer than expected you may not keep your job long as this will lead to unhappy customers. Years ago, when papers were 10 cents, you got paid 2 cents on every paper, or 20 percent. Today, the percentages are closer to 30 percent and with papers going for 50 cents a pop during the week and $1.00 on Sunday, you can make a nice part time income for an hour of work a day. Being a paper boy isn’t what it used to be. Everyone knows the privilege that the good-looking appearance brings to its lucky owner- from success in business to happier personal life. Everyone needs their good looks and many peoples only option is to undertake a plastic operation for recovering of their hidden beauty. An unprofessional surgeon can ruin the little good looks that they have. Aesthetic surgery can be conditionally divided into two main branches, slight changes on the face and greater transformations of the body. Plastic surgery offers cosmetic operations of the face, eyes, nose, breasts and body, as well as liposuction and additional plastic operations to maximise your good looks. The facial plastic surgery includes operations on head and neck, such as: - Facelifts, neck lifts, chemical peels - Facial implants on the chin, cheeks and jaw, including fat and collagen injections - Laser resurfacing - Eyelid, forehead and brow plastic surgery - Nose, chin and ear pinning surgery The body plastic surgery includes the following cosmetic interventions: - Liposuction and microliposuction, also called liposculpture - Breast lift and reconstruction - Tummy tuck - Female breast augmentation or reduction, as well as male breast reduction There are few things to consider upon choosing the plastic surgeon in New York, who will perform the operation. The top New York surgeons are available to anyone who can afford it. But you should be careful if the surgeon you have chosen is really a top professional. Check everything about him or her, her or his reputation, media publications, experience, past successes and specialties. Try to learn as much as possible before you decide pro or con to trust him/her with your plastic operation. Some surgeons that perform plastic surgery have additional specialty, which runs as Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) that gives them further qualification for operating on skin. Upon your first meeting with your future-to-be surgeon, try to get as much information about him/her as possible. Ask questions and beware of the answers. Pay attention to the staff and the facilities. Check your surgeons involvement in local New Yorks and international organisations, and any special surgical areas in which he or she performed. Also get information about which hospitals are affiliated with your surgeon. After having checked everything about you surgeon, you may take on a great adventure of getting your new and beautiful appearance. Growing Bamboo And Grasses In The Uk And Temperate Zones

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Peter Corbett Growing tips and advice for bamboo and grasses in the UK. Growing tips for plant care and garden advice on hardy bamboo plants ornamental grasses plus sedges and ferns for contemporary European or prairie plantings bogland wetland areas or gravel and dry gardens. If you give a plant growing conditions that are similar to those that it thrives in the wild then that plant will usually do very well. Its not always as easy as it sounds. Every garden has its own microclimate and although there are one or two things we can possibly do to improve that, usually by adding or growing wind breaks, creating sun traps and opening up shaded areas the options are fairly limited. There is nothing on the other hand we can do about the overall climate in general. Living in the UK means we are living the temperate zone where our climate is very much influenced by the fact we are an island. The presence of the gulf stream blessing us with milder winters than we possibly deserve for our latitude particularly when compared with corresponding latitudes in central China ,where the winters can be extremely cruel. Many of the ornamental bamboos come from these areas in China such as Ganshu, Sezchuan, Zhejiang where the seasonal changes are far more extreme than we experience in the United Kingdom. As a consequence we can easily grow bamboos such as Phyllostachys Bissettii which is hardy down to minus 23 degrees without much worry. However on the other hand we do not have such intensely hot summers, so where a bamboo like Bissettii will quite easily reach over 12 meters or more in its home environment we can expect it to make about two thirds of that in our climate. Usual between 5 and 8 meters depending on whereabouts in the UK we are situated. Still a respectable size for a larger garden and quite formidable for an average one. Although bamboos are true grasses their needs differ from many of the ornamental grasses. Where the majority of grasses are happy with impoverished soil and handle severe drought condition and exposure to the elements such as wind bamboos are a little more fuss though with a little care in choosing your plants you should be able to cope with most situations. In China much of the very best bamboos grow in hollows and shallow valleys protected from the drying winds yet still enjoying maximum sunshine and the benefits of a moist and fertile pockets at the bottom of the depression. You probably have a picture in your minds eye of what you would like your garden to look like, but please take a moment before you start ordering your plants to make a basic appraisal of your gardens disposition with regard to the soil type the aspect and its exposure and also the shadow boundaries, a factor that is often overlooked. Once you know what you have, you will be able to assess weather it can be improved or altered. If its not possible to improve or alter your garden or the costs are prohibitive then it may be necessary to compromise a little. Now I mean compromise a little, because although the grasses you had originally planed to put in a particular position or situation may now appear unsuitable due to the fact that position is shaded or far to wet . Dont worry there are loads of alternatives amongst the sedges and ferns that will literally thrive in those conditions and are very capable of producing some of the most unusual and attractive displays that you could wish for. There is a saying about putting the wrong plant in the wrong place. Basically its bull and the rest can go with the organic much. There is no such thing as the wrong plant; they are all the right plants, just some of them get put in the wrong places. Use your eyes and look around you and appraise. Do your home work and find out which plant suits the soil type which aspect is best for that particular plant then you wont go far wrong. Finally if you have planted a bamboo or grass and it does not look like its doing well, then dig it up and move it somewhere else dont worry about the right time, the right time is right now, while its looking poorly not when its dead. The plant wants to survive as much as you want it to do. Before deciding what and where you are going to plant make an assessment of the area. If you can try to do it early in the year so you have plenty of time to plan ahead. This is also a good time to determine where the shadow boundaries are. In the early months of the year, the sun is low on the horizon and the shadows extend further into the garden. Look out on a bright day and mark the extent of those boundaries with a couple of pegs. Determining these boundaries is quite important as most true grasses relish the sun and do best when the have maximum exposure to it, even through the winter months. This is because grasses including bamboo are incredibly sophisticated plants when it comes to converting sunlight to energy through photosynthesis. Most grasses including bamboo, with a few exceptions do not generally do well in shade. However sedges and rushes do. Once you have determined the limitations of your boundaries you will have a good idea where grasses and sedges belong. The exposure to wind and elements will depend to a degree of openness of your garden. The prevailing winds, coastal conditions, altitude, and geographical location will all have an effect on the microclimate of your garden. Exposure to wind is probably the most damaging as it can desiccate plants and dry out the soil very quickly even in the winter months. It may be possible to erect physical windbreaks such as fences or screens, however there are many bamboos and grasses that stand up extremely well to exposed conditions and the larger species can be used to good effect on the boundaries to form a quick growing living screen that is far cheaper more attractive and wonderfully animated in the wind when compared to conventional fencing. Knowing your soil types is essential. I say types, as even the smallest garden may have a variety of different soil compositions and varying PH levels in it. Most grasses and bamboos are unfussy about the PH but there is always the one or to that are, so check the lists above. . Composition of the soil is also important, a shaded area on the north-facing wall of your property may prove to be extremely dry due to its shelter from the prevailing wet weather winds, absorption from the footings, or excess drainage created by a high proportion of builders rubble and sand that has been left or backfilled. These conditions are not conducive to most sedges or ferns and in fact not conducive to much at all. The options here are to dig out the planting area and isolate the footings by placing a polythene sheet or damp course between the wall footings and then replacing the soil after it has been much improved with lots of organic manure or compost and possibly riddled as well. If you also have areas that have a suitable aspect for grasses, but tend to be heavy and wet, then you can improve those areas by digging in plenty of sharp sand grit or shingle to improve the drainage. Unlike bamboos and sedges grasses don’t have a high nutrient requirement in fact many do best on poor soil so there is no great need to incorporate organic manures or fertilizers. An excellent way to maintain drainage in these areas is to make a gravel garden where a number of specimen clump forming grasses can be shown off to advantage within an area of gravel mulch. This will effectively suppress unwanted weeds and the gravel will work its way down over time into the soil and preserve its open structure an drainage. Bamboos on the other hand do best with a fertile free draining and evenly moist soil. They will however tolerate most condition except to excess. Perhaps their biggest dislikes are waterlogged ground and dense shade. Like grasses they do not take a lot of looking after if placed in the right spot with their minimum basic requirements plus a hair cut, comb through and brush up and an occasional feed. The problems to be aware of with bamboos is that some are clumpers and well behaved, ideal for specimen planting in lawns or as a backdrop for herbaceous perennials. The others are runners beware some are rampant, such as the staggeringly beautiful Chimonobambusa Tumidissinoda from China who like Genghis Kahn with his hoards will gallop across your lawn and into next doors in no time at all. These bamboos are best kept I containers and they do well being shown off and appreciated as such. To Sell More, Avoid Cognitive Dissonance in Your Communications

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Suzanne Wood Cogni-what? While it’s not my way to flaunt 40-dollar words, cognitive dissonance is a term all marketers and communicators should be aware of. It could mean the difference between clients who close the deal and clients who close the door. Cognitive dissonance is a psychology term that refers to the way our brains are always looking for consistency between beliefs we’ve already formed and any new information or impressions we receive. For instance, if you went to a Rolls Royce showroom, you’d have a good idea of how the place would look, how the salespeople would be dressed, and how you’d be served. It’s safe to say if you walked into the dealership expecting to be treated like Prince Charles and encountered a salesman wearing overalls and slurping Mountain Dew, a floor covered in sawdust and Hank Williams Jr. blaring through the sound system, you’d be shocked. Not only would you leave without a new set of car keys, you’d probably head for the nearest hospital for a brain scan. An extreme example, perhaps–and my apologies to overalls-loving, country music fans–but this is cognitive dissonance. Do your customers or prospects have certain expectations when they dial your number, visit your Website or stop by your office? You bet they do. And what happens when their experiences are at odds with their beliefs? At the minimum, they’re puzzled or disappointed. At worst, they’re so put-off they’ll take their business elsewhere. Anytime you interact with the public, you have the opportunity to create either cognitive assonance–when expectations and experiences mesh–or cognitive dissonance. Your “proxies”–Website, brochures, signage, printed policies, invoices, business cards, even your lobby or offices–also have an impact on how well your customers’ expectations jibe with their impressions. How do you avoid cognitive dissonance? First, be clear about the expectations your clients and prospects hold. For example, if you’re a lawyer or financial professional, they’ll expect a sober, formal, traditional, successful image, from the way you’re dressed to the verbiage on your Website to the colors on your business card. Then audit all the ways your company makes itself known to world. These include: Signage: It goes without saying that if you have signs, they should be clear and free of spelling and grammatical errors, and their tone should be friendly and welcoming. With the exception of a biker bar or maybe a pawn shop, I can’t think of any businesses that benefit from having rude, offensive or sternly worded mandates hanging about. For instance, the neighborhood family pizza joint I frequent serves some of the best pizza in town, but has silly rules posted that raise my hackles: “Check takeout orders before leaving. We are NOT responsible for incorrect orders after you leave!” and “Absolutely no checks.” These messages contrast sharply with the warm, friendly staff. I won’t stop eating their pizza because of their poor PR practices, but you can bet if another pizza place with comparable food opened nearby, I’d be tempted to defect. Website: Not only should your Website be as professional looking as your brochures and other marketing collateral, it should share the same tone, messaging and design. If a customer or prospect reads one thing in your brochure, hears another thing from one of your customer associates and reads something else again on your Website, he’s not going to be in a buying mood. Front-line employees: A toy store with grouchy, potty-mouthed clerks? A physician practice with gossipy, unfeeling nurses? That’s a recipe for cognitive dissonance. It’s fair to say that many businesses don’t spend enough time training their employees to represent the company in the best possible light. If possible, take a cue from mystery shoppers and call or visit your company anonymously. Then make training or hiring adjustments to better reflect your company mission and image. Printed materials: Have a trusted advisor, friend or client review all your printed materials–business cards, letterhead, brochures, invoices, fax cover sheets, policies, manuals, etc.–for inconsistencies between wording and the image you hope to project. And keep in mind that an organization that receives charitable or public dollars should have somewhat subdued, moderately-priced materials unless it’s clear that a for-profit company sponsored them. Conversely, a business that caters to an affluent crowd should have materials that convey wealth and high status through paper choice, color, design and typography. Don’t get me wrong. Sometimes it’s good to dash expectations, as in the ugly duckling who attends her 20th class reunion as a svelte, ravishing swan. But when it comes to your business, consistency counts. What Do Women Look For In Men?

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Michael Douglas Women are very finicky about their men. They know exactly what they want in a man and they have a one-track mind when it comes to finding that in any potential partner. This has given birth to a mating game that men don’t always understand. So, they should play the game cautiously! Men should try to understand how women think. They have to hack into their brains and do this, so that they can seduce women effectively. The fact is that men think that they have the “tool” to intoxicate women, a bulging tumescent tool, but women often don’t see things the same way! It’s not that men can’t turn a woman on, but these are the rare cases - perhaps two per cent of all cases. But these odds just aren’t good enough for men, are they? So, they should try to get into the minds of women and understand them so that they can hit the jackpot more often and have an exciting and exuberant sex life. But men have to be patient and understanding first! It cannot be denied that the position of women has changed in the modern world. Today, they are prominent in every field, have achieved financial independence to a large extent and are bold and vocal. They feel that they have the right to demand sexual satisfaction and marital happiness on their own terms. So, they have their own fix on how far they can go in every matter. Today, women choose their men carefully and decide whom they want to have sex with. As a result, men who ruled the roost earlier, have to face the humiliation of being rejected and having their overtures refused. For hundreds of years, men have done the choosing and they have generally gone by cup-size rather than IQ. Now, women want to play by the same rules. Both men and women have physical and behavioural turn-ons as far as the other sex is concerned. If one man is turned on by the cup-size of a woman, a woman might find herself turned on by a man’s well-developed shoulders. Or if a man is turned on by bold behaviour, a woman might be turned on by sensitivity in a man. These turn-ons indicate that extreme pleasure can result from intercourse. Intellectuals often say that the aim of sex is not always pleasure. It is the propagation of the species, they say. But arguments are mere sophistry. Sex is for pleasure, but nature has also helped in the matter of selective propagation of the fittest and best. Women are interested in sexually attractive males for the pleasure they know they will get from intercourse with them. But attractive looks are also very important for them and a strong, sexually attractive body almost always goes with health and a strong, immune system. WHAT TURNS ON WOMEN Again, since wealth and status are also big turn-ons for women, this means that the offspring of such unions will have money invested in them and their chances of surviving and reproducing are very good. In earlier times, childbirth was dangerous and often resulted in the death of the baby, the mother or both. Health and beauty generally went together and attracted males and the babies born of such unions were usually healthy and they survived. But men believe that women do not understand this and that they often couple with the wrong men. Cathy, for instance, thinks that looks are not all that important in a man. Her man need not have the looks of a model, she says. Speaking for all women, she says that women are often attracted to a man who has a single good feature that they think is important. That feature is often a sexy gait. So, men will have to learn to walk in a sexy manner to give the fit-to-reproduce signal. That might be easy, but what about other signals? How much are these signals under their control and how can they project them? Women have it easier because the signals men give are less complicated and are easy to understand. Men are attracted by lusciously sexy looks. This is a signal that women can easily understand. This is why women are so looks conscious and why they are constantly trying to make themselves look more beautiful. They use everything that they think could help them, everything from lipsticks to corsets. This is why women’s magazines are so full of beauty features and ads for cosmetics. There is no use scoffing at this because all these things help a woman to attract men. Make no mistake, all this works! Let a woman who wants to be more attractive to men, wear a pushup bra and see what a difference that makes to her social life! A woman wants the man she loves to feel that she is hot. But today, a woman who uses her wiles on men is often called a bimbo. Men are very conscious about their physiques and feel that they are sending out the correct signals when they firm up their muscles. They can do this with bicycling, walking or by investing more money and time in it, through martial art. But they need not overdo this muscles business. Women aren’t all that turned on by muscles. In fact, most intelligent women don’t go for the musclebound weightlifter look. Yes, women like to see well-toned arm, shoulder and chest muscles in their men, because then they can wear snug-fitting short-sleeved shirts and tank tops, which are the closest equivalents of a woman’s cleavage! But Cathy has a word of warning. Men shouldn’t overdo the muscles-and-tight-shirt thing because of the danger of giving the impression that they are gay. Once a man has a reasonable amount of muscles, he should just wear a simple T-shirt. This will be very effective, provided that it fits him snugly and is clean. Amy has more to say on this business of cleanliness. She says that men should wash their hair and brush their teeth regularly. Women rejoice in their own long and shining hair. So, they are definitely turned off by greasy hair. Cathy adds that no woman will willingly get into the sack with a man who smells bad. Men should, therefore, be attentive to their breath especially after they have eaten garlic or other strong-smelling foods. MEN SHOULD BE READY Men should brush their teeth often. Sex with a woman doesn’t go well if a man’s breath is foul. If they don’t have time to brush before sex, they should at least use a mouth freshener. Amy adds that women love long hair. Not only do they like to keep their own hair long, they also love long hair in their men. It is an instant turn-on for them. So, men should grow their hair and then wash it often and toss it on their shoulders. Amy’s boyfriend’s hair is so gorgeous that women come up to him and touch his hair. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your guy too had something that all the other women loved? But not all men can have and maintain such attractive physical assets and, anyway, they consider that these cues to women are less important than other behavioural and status cues. In the past, men worried whether a woman would be able to get pregnant, survive pregnancy and childbirth and give her man many children. Women worried about whether their men would be able and willing to provide for her and her children. As women became freer, they began to think of cheating on their men or conning them into supporting their children so that they could have genetic variety in their offspring. When women began to think like this, they also began to tilt towards seeing physical sexiness as the indicator of health and suitability in a partner. Eric is confused. How can he impress a girl and make her think that he is kind, wealthy, respected and talented, when he is just an ordinary geek? Amy feels that being articulate, speaking correctly and having a good vocabulary is important. Cathy has this suggestion for Eric. She feels that his interest in writing poetry is a definite asset. A woman loves her man reciting original poetry to her. Even if it is not very good poetry, it proves that he loves her and that he has been thinking about her. THE IDEAL MAN Amy says that her husband is very considerate. He regularly opens doors for her. He is not sexist or chauvinistic. She is glad that she does not have to endure the bad-mannered losers she used to date when she was single any longer. Her husband’s good manners and generosity have convinced her that pleasant manners and good breeding melt a woman’s heart. So, men should sit back and remember all the manners that their mothers taught them! She also says that women love men who are cool. So, men should try to be cool. Cathy says that some women are stupid enough to think that they are more intelligent and sophisticated than women were in the past. Women love men who are interested in music and poetry. They also want their men to be courteous and good listeners. Men should also be articulate, should dress well and should be capable of rising in their professions. If men are all this, women want to display their legs and breasts to them! Women know what they want in their men and, if they don’t get what they want, they become disconsolate. So, they should make sure that men understand their signals! Michael Douglas is a relationship expert and writes articles about love, dating and relationships. Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Amanda Jones When comparing online nursing masters programs, be prepared to find many programs of interest. It is important to know what one is looking for when trying to find a program that is the best choice. Knowing which area of nursing one would like to go into is probably the best way to determine which program to enroll in. There are many areas of nursing that a person will find interesting. From home health care programs to nursing administration and nursing education, one will be able to go into an area that is interesting and intellectually challenging. Make a list of all the schools that are of interest and note which ones offer the programs of interest. Contact all schools to obtain further information. These schools are very helpful and will provide additional information when comparing online nursing masters programs. The length of the program should be another consideration. Many programs can take up to a year to complete. But there are others that can be completed in less time. It depends on the curriculum and how quickly a person can finish courses. Determining how much time a person can spend on a program will determine which school to choose. Comparing online nursing masters programs can take some time, but in the end it is worth it. Finding a program that one is comfortable with will make learning much easier. Contacting the people in charge of the program is the best way to find out everything one needs to know about the program. Also, if possible, contact those who have gone through the program to see what they thought of it. Many times if those people were satisfied, then others will be as well. Other people are usually very willing to talk about their experiences. After researching different programs and gathering as much information as possible, choose a program that offers the kinds of courses one is most interested in taking and is of the right length of time.
