The Blessings Of God

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Frank Reilly As discussed in the “The Gospel of Convenience”, and “Investing Christian” articles here on this site, American Christianity teaches that money, possessions, stock market holdings, “toys” and all manner of material possessions are “the blessings of God”. We too used to accept this as truth. We have recently been convicted by the Holy Spirit , and instructed by God, to speak out against this principal as a heresy, and a deception of the Devil, that it has taken some 30 - 40 years for our enemy to foster into church doctrine. We have encountered some truly amazing responses in this endeavor, in the form of, in some cases, condemnation from fellow Christians. We have been told we are “lost”, “out there”, “unthankful to God”. The concepts of the “blessings of God”, and “stewardship” are now doctrines in the church. They include the teaching that your possessions are bestowed “blessings”, or “gifts” from God, and that it is you’re duty as a Christian, to be a faithful “steward” of those things (I.E. that you are to maintain them, upgrade them, increase them, or nurture (love) them.) However, the word “blessings” only appears in the above scripture, and in the following verses, as “blessing”… Luke 24:53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. Romans 15:29 And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? Galatians 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Hebrews 6:7 For the earth which drinks in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receives blessing from God: Hebrews 6:14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. Hebrews 12:17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 1 Peter 3:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. Revelation 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. Revelation 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto him that sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. Revelation 7:12 Saying, Amen: blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. 4 times the word is used as meaning “Praise or Worship”, ( Luke 24:53,Revelation 5:12,5:13, and 7:12). 4 times it is used as meaning “salvation” ( Romans 15:29, 1 Corinthians 10:16, Galatians 3:14,and the second use in 1 Peter 3:9). 3 times it is used as meaning “Approval” or “Love” ( James 3:10, Hebrews 6:7 and the first use in 1 Peter 3:9). In the last 2 uses, ( Hebrews 6:14, and in Hebrews 12:17), Paul was discussing the Old Testament patriarchs, and the circumstances surrounding their “inheritances” which as we know, were the “blessing” (anointing) of God, as the rightful leaders of Israel. In no context in scripture, other than the context of ancient Israel, which we all know WAS in fact an earthly kingdom, is the word “blessing” used to indicate land, or material possessions. So the use of “blessings” as a doctrine in which people are given material wealth, possessions, and increase, as a gift of God, is out of context with the Church of Jesus Christ, (a Spiritual kingdom), and with the Bible as a whole. Since the Old (earthly) covenant is fulfilled in Christ, its principals do not apply to the Church, except where Jesus expanded on them. STEWARD OR STEWARDSHIP… Also, in the entire New Testament, the word “Steward”, only appears in the following verses… Matthew 20:8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. Luke 8:3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance. Luke 12:42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Luke 16:1 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. Luke 16:2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou may be no longer steward. Luke 16:3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord takes away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. Titus 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; In all 8 uses of the word “Steward” given in the New Testament, the meaning of the word is “Care Taker” of something. It is indicated as this person’s secular job. The only verse in which a steward is stated in a doctrine concerning the Church of Jesus Christ is in Titus 1:7, where the Bishop is described as one who posses these traits, please note that one of those traits is, “not given to filthy lucre;” (as described in “The Investing Christian” article). Most of the scriptures above were part of a parable, where Jesus was teaching a principle of our faith, but the “items” described in those parables were not the point, we will discuss this further later in this article. There are three appearances of the word “stewardship” in the New Testament, and they are found in the following versus, 2 of them were above… Luke 16:2-4 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou may be no longer steward. Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord takes away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. Brothers and Sisters, “Stewardship”, as a doctrine from God that orders us to grow our money, make it increase, and spend our lives, and we might add a HUGE portion of our time, dedication, and strength doing, is not in line with the things that Jesus taught us about a life that is pleasing to him. These scriptures do in fact teach a “principle” of faithfulness, but when taken in the context of ALL of Jesus’ other teachings, they can not possibly be intended to refer to our constantly increasing wealth, especially when Jesus spent a very significant portion of his time condemning riches. Some would then ask “Then, what is meant by this scripture”… Matthew 25: 14-28 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoned with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou delivered unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou delivered unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strewed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed: Thou aught therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents… We would contend, that like other scripture verses that we have discussed here, Jesus is teaching the principle of faithfulness in this Parable. Often times in the Parables of Jesus, the examples given are used to teach a principle, not give a teaching on the exact items in the parable. When taken in the context of Jesus’ teaching one would need to say that Jesus contradicted himself, if he was teaching here about how we need to expand our wealth, since he utterly condemned wealth everywhere he went. Would Jesus teach in one city that riches are evil, and of the devil, and in another city, that you must make your money grow and grow faithfully? We think not. All of Jesus’ parables used earthly things to illustrate his point. This parable is no exception to that rule. The parable is not about money. Here are a few examples of what we are saying… Maybe we should talk about Money in the Christian Church?… “The Blessings Of God?” Frank Reilly is one of the Writers for the 11th Hour web site. “11th Hour” Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Frank_Reilly http://EzineArticles.com/?The-Blessings-Of-God&id=46228 purchase zolpidem online with out a buy xanax valium zolpidem ambien day delivery online consultation ambien canadian ambien online

Did You Know That Eating More Than Thrice A Day Cures Overweight or Obesity?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Charles Neshah Hey, how would like to know the already proven fact that overweight or obesity occurs because you’re not eating right, your meals contain the wrong types of calories and you’re also eating your meals irregularly each day? Yes, friend, life revolves around food and how you eat, so how well you manage this of life will determine how well or otherwise you will live your life. Overweight or Obesity may be genetic, but how serious it affects you depends your eating habit. Prescription weight loss pills dont match up to eating right, because the FOOD that you eat can either make you thin or fat. Lack of exercise will not make you add weight if you do not eat food at all, so although exercise is required for good health, proper circulation etc, it is eating of the wrong food irregularly that bloats up to overweight or obesity. Yes, your eating pattern each day is more powerful than any prescription weight loss pills. Fat, overweight or obesity occurs when you the eat wrong food and at wrong intervals making it hard for your body to burn the necessary calories. And do you know what happens if excess calories remain unburned? They simply get converted to fat tissues, overweight or obesity. It will surprise you, it did me, to note that a study has proved that you need to eat more than thrice daily to be able to lose weight. Yes, it is true, you can find the details online. Think on this: It is common sense to say that since you have gotten overweight by eating the wrong foods at wrong intervals, simply reversing your eating habit will get you back to your desired slim fit. Yes, friend, self starving is an ignorant method of trying to lose weight. It does not work; overweight or obesity returns as soon you stop starving. Why waste hundreds of hours online trying to find a good workout when you can find everything right at your fingertips at Weight Loss Sports? And why spend over $500 a month (or more) for different online solutions when Advanced Fat Burning Techniques, a brand new no-starvation diet program for losing 9 Lbs every 11 days is available for you for a fraction of what other diet programs that don’t work charge. Public Health Certification Schools

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Michael Bustamante Public Health Schools, colleges, and universities provide programs of study for earning a certificate or a degree in fields of public health. Both courses of study are intended for practicing public health or health care professionals. Public Health Schools that offer the Certificate in Public Health (CPH) have designed this course of study to add to public health knowledge and skills. The program is meant for practicing professionals in various fields of public health, and for those with appropriate education and work experience who are considering a career in the field of public health. Coursework for public health certificates can be applied toward the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, provided that an undergraduate degree has been obtained and the student is registered in a master degree program. The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree is recognized as the primary professional degree in public health. MPH programs prepare students with bachelor or higher degrees, usually in the health care field, for teaching professions in public health. Professionals can add to their career potential with the CPH or MPH through specialized post-graduate studies in areas of public health. Public Health Schools provide programs for professionals from various health field backgrounds for improved expertise, influence, and effectiveness. Course credits can be applied toward MPH in clinical research, public and industrial policy, health education, as well as other health care professions. Public Health Schools teach applications of biostatistics, epidemiology, behavioral, and environmental health sciences to address health problems, approaches and resolutions to health problems, and orientation towards health promotion and disease prevention. MPH programs address many health issues and allow pursuit of study for the master’s degree in areas of special interest with combined degree programs. Combined degrees offered some by some Public Health Schools include the DVM/MPH (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine/Master of Public Health), which provides advanced training related to infectious diseases and public health; the MD/MPH (Doctor of Medicine/Master of Public Health), which allows medical doctors to apply the principles of both medicine and public health in their practices; the MSN/MPH (Master of Science/Master of Public Health), which prepares nurses for positions in public health agencies; and the PharmD/MPH (Pharmacy/Master of Public Health), which allows training in public health with relation to pharmacotherapy and health promotion, disease prevention, and medication safety. Depression Diagnosis

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Roopam Dhawan Proper diagnosis of depression or any other illness is the key to effective treatment and cure. If you suspect that you may be suffering from depression, just ask yourself two simple questions and answer them carefully and objectively. 1. In the last month, have you been lost interest or pleasure in doing things which you previously loved to do? 2. In the last month, have you been feeling down, depressed or hopeless? If you answered ‘Yes’ to any of the above question, you might need help. You should undergo a more detailed assessment. You can do it yourself if you feel shy or have reservations of seeing an expert at this stage. But you must not ignore it. It might be appropriate for you to learn more about depression. There are many types of depression. You might be suffering from a mild depression which if left untreated might blow-up into a more serious kind of depression and may affect your life adversely. If, however, you answered Yes to both the above questions, it is strongly suggested that you see a health care professional immediately. There are many different tests and criteria for diagnosis of depression. These most common tests are: Hamilton Rating Scale of Depression (Ham-D-7) Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) Patient Health Questionnaire - PHQ-9 There are a few things that you need to remember: Depression is an illness and has to be treated. It will not just go away. Depression can be cured by proper treatment. You are not alone. Millions of people across the world suffer from depression. So, pick yourself up. Dont just lie down hopelessly. FIGHT IT! Roopam Dhawan is a post graduate in science and a health enthusiast. Diet and Weight Control for Children

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Chris Chenoweth Overweight children need love, support, and encouragement from their parents. An overweight child probably knows better than anyone else that he or she has a weight problem. Focus on the positive qualities of your child. NEVER focus on the weight of your child. Try not to treat your child differently if he or she is overweight. Instead, focus on gradually changing the physical activities and eating habits of your family. Be a good role model for your child. If your child sees you enjoying healthy foods and regular physical activities, he or she is more likely to do the same now and for the rest of his or her life. Realize that an appropriate goal for many overweight children is to maintain their current weight while growing normally in height. They do not necessarily need to lose weight. HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT: *Decreasing calories-in: meaning eat fewer calories, or *Increasing calories-out: meaning burn more calories, or *Ideally, a combination of both. WEIGHT MANAGEMENT GOALS: The first goal of weight management in children and teenagers should be to stop weight gain and maintain normal growth in height. This way they can GROW INTO their weight. To start, have your child eat healthier and begin a program of regular exercise and physical activity. Once your child has stopped gaining weight and is on a regular program of dieting and exercising, you can set further goals of slow weight loss, if necessary. However, do so cautiously. BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION: It is important to modify the behaviors that have caused your child to become overweight and prevent weight loss. Listed below are some helpful tips: TELEVISION/VIDEO GAMES, ETC:You should limit television viewing to about one or two hours each day. Remember, this includes playing video games and using the computer. These pastimes encourage lack of exercise. SNACKS:You should limit snacks to two healthy snacks each day such as raw fruits or vegetables. Avoid using high calorie or high fat foods for snacks, especially chips, cookies, etc. DRINKS:You should encourage your child to drink four to six glasses of water each day, especially before meals. Water has no calories and it will help you to feel full. Other drinks can include diet sodas and lowfat milk. Avoid letting your child drink regular soft drinks or bottled fruit juices, as they are high in calories (150-170 calories per serving). JOURNAL:If you think it helps your child to improve his eating habits, (sometimes it does not) encourage him to keep a weekly journal of food and beverage intake. You should definitely encourage a teenager to keep track of the amount of time he spends watching television, playing video games and exercising. You might also record your child’s weight once a week. FOOD LABELS:It is not necessary to count calories but you and your child should become more educated about the foods you eat and how many calories they contain. You should get into the habit of checking the nutrition label of the foods your family is eating. You want to try and eat foods low in calories and also low in fat. Be careful of many low fat or so-called diet foods as they can be high in calories even though they are low in fat. FOOD SERVING SIZES:Begin checking the serving size of prepared meals and snacks. A bag of chips might only have 200 calories, but the serving size may only be 10 chips. EATING HABITS: HEALTHY MEALS:Your child should eat three well-balanced meals of average size each day. Serve fewer fatty foods. It is best to prepare foods that are baked, broiled or steamed, rather than fried. In addition to a small serving of lean protein, provide large servings of vegetables. SINGLE SERVINGS:Avoid serving seconds of the main course or dessert. You can eat more salad or other vegetables if still hungry. DESSERTS:Serve fresh fruit as a dessert. Avoid frequent eating of ice cream or cake or other high calorie foods. GROCERY SHOPPING:Buy low-calorie and low-fat meals, snacks and deserts, and buy low fat or skim milk and diet drinks. Avoid buying high calorie desserts or snacks such as chips, regular soft drinks or regular ice cream. EAT AT THE TABLE:Avoid letting your child eat meals or snacks outside of the kitchen or dining room. Discourage eating while watching TV. REDUCE FAST FOOD:You should limit how often you allow your children to eat fast food, as it is usually high in fat and calories. EXERCISE SUGGESTIONS: Be physically active. Adults should have at least 30 minutes of exercise most days. Children or teens should have at least 60 minutes each day. Even greater amounts of physical activity may be necessary for the prevention of weight gain, for weight loss, or for sustaining weight loss. Plan family activities that provide everyone with exercise and enjoyment. Provide a safe environment for your children and their friends to play actively. Encourage swimming, biking, skating, ball sports, and other fun activities. HEALTHY EATING SUGGESTIONS: *Follow the dietary guidelines for healthy eating. *Guide the choices for your family rather than dictate foods. *Encourage your child to eat when hungry and to eat slowly. *Eat meals together as a family as often as possible. *Carefully cut down on the amount of fat and calories in the eating plan your family follows. *Do not place your child on a restrictive diet. *Avoid the use of food as a reward. *Avoid withholding food as punishment. *Plan for healthy snacks. Stock the refrigerator with fat-free or low-fat milk, fresh fruit, and vegetables instead of soft drinks or snacks that are high in fat, calories, or added sugars and low in essential nutrients. *Aim to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. *Eating a healthy breakfast is a good way to start the day and may be important in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. IF YOUR CHILD OR TEENAGER IS OVERWEIGHT: The diet for you child should be safe and nutritious. It should include all of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for vitamins, minerals, and protein and contain the foods from the major Food Guide Pyramid groups. Any weight-loss diet should be low in calories ONLY, not in essential nutrients. Even with extremely overweight children, weight loss should be gradual. Crash diets and diet pills can compromise growth and are not recommended by health care professionals. Your child’s physician should supervise any diet program. Weight lost during a diet is frequently regained unless children are motivated to change their eating habits and activity levels for a lifetime. Weight control must be considered a lifelong effort. As a parent, you must work with your children to help them achieve a healthy lifestyle. Jobs Seeker Tips: You Need a Plan

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Kathleen MacNaughton As a jobs seeker, you need to prepare. The first step is to put together a plan. Experts recommend that you expect to spend at least 6 to 9 months on a job search. You’ll need to have a solid understanding of what you have to offer an employer, the job market you seek to enter, and strong job hunting skills. Here are the basic steps you’ll need to include as you develop your job search plan. Assess your values, interests and skills. It’s important to know what you want in a job, the kind of company culture you’ll be comfortable in, and what particular job skills you excel in or need to improve. Investigate your particular career options. Once you know more about who you are and what you want in a career, then you’ll be ready to learn more about what careers might be a good match for what you’re looking for and what you have to offer an employer. Select several employers in your chosen career field. All jobs seekers must settle on a specific career path and then research employers who offer relevant career opportunities. Don’t just look at the want ads; find out who the top players are in the industry which you wish to enter. Discover the best employers in your chosen field. Assemble your jobs seeker tools and build your job search skills. To find a job, you’ll need to have a powerful resume to sell your worth to prospective employers, with matching cover letters that will earn you an interview. Besides knowing where and how to search for quality jobs in your field, you’ll also need to know how to interview successfully and the right way to follow up after an interview. Launch your job search. Finally, once you have all the previous pieces in place, you’ll be ready to execute a jobs seeker campaign. You’ll need to know where to look for jobs and how to contact the recruiters. Network your contacts as thoroughly as you can. Make sure you keep good records of your job applications and follow ups. Be persistent–in a professional manner–with recruiters and hiring managers. Keep working your jobs seeker plan. With this kind of planning, preparation and follow up, you’re much more likely to find jobs seeker success! What Does it Mean to Worship God? (Part 1)

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Carey Kinsolving “To worship God is paying attention to nobody else but God,” says Pruitt, 11. “If you don’t do it, it sort of messes you up. You can worship him anywhere.” “It sort of messes you up” is a great way to describe our preoccupation with ourselves. God wants to take us into a larger place where he’s in control, and we can relax by trusting in him. Pruitt also says we can worship God anywhere. Although this is true, don’t try to pass off a round of golf on Sunday morning as a worship experience. God accepts worship from Christians meeting in houses, fields, caves and even beautiful cathedrals. In countries like China and Saudi Arabia, Christians meet secretly because authorities could break in and arrest them for worshipping God. God is more concerned about the condition of our hearts than the appearance of buildings where worshippers meet. Jesus once told a woman at a well, “True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23) The “how” and “whom” of worship is more important than the “where” of worship. Pilgrims travel thousands of miles because they imagine that a so-called holy place will bring them closer to God. Others spend millions on ornate church buildings for the same reason. The idea of connecting God’s presence to a building is an Old Testament concept. The temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in A.D. 70. God now dwells in the hearts of his people. (Jeremiah 31) “When you worship God, you invite Him to come and fill you with the Holy Spirit,” says Kaylee, 12. “You pray and sing to him through your heart. You read your Bible and just let him speak to you. When you worship God, you honor Him and give Him glory. That’s the whole reason we are even here on Earth.” “Worshipping God means to spill our heart out to God and let him receive it so that he can fill it with the love of his presence,” says Natalie, 13. Jesus spilled his life out to God to pay for our sins. All who have received the Lord’s life by faith alone in Christ alone can experience a life filled with God’s love. There’s a realm where God is all in all. In order to be filled with God’s spirit, there must be an emptying of ourselves. Jesus told his disciples that if they would lose their lives in following him, they would find their lives. In directing the “Mission Explorers Video Series,” I traveled around the world with more than 20 suitcases at more than three times the allowed weight — for five people. Similarly, we carry a lot of excess baggage when we travel solo without God. We’re full of ourselves. Worshipping God in spirit and truth allows us to see him and what he is doing. When we make adjustments to be a part of his plan, he takes care of our life’s itinerary and accommodations. His plan for us, however, might not be the easiest because it’s full of challenges and adventures. Life with God is never boring when we trade the certainty of our small life for the uncertainty of a faith-adventure. Worship allows us to walk in communion with a loving God who knows how to take us beyond our frailties and fears. Think about this: The wonder of worship is that it “enables us to emerge from the straightjacket of our oversensitive preoccupation with our ‘feelings,’” writes scholar R. P. Martin. “We rise into the presence of God through a contemplation of Him in His goodness, beauty, and truth, and especially His redeeming acts.” Memorize this truth: “True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23) Ask this question: Are you living in that larger realm where God is all? Progesterone: The Rodney Dangerfield of Hormones

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Platt] Michael Platt Hormones control every system of the body. Knowledge of how hormones interact gives practitioners an important tool towards achieving wellness in their patients. Those people involved with bio-identical hormones, namely, compound pharmacists, physicians, and nurse practitioners, are already much aware of the importance of progesterone with regards to a womans gynecological well-being. However, there seems to be a lack of appreciation for the role progesterone plays in the area of mens health, as well as how progesterone can be utilized to benefit weight control in men, women and children. Please be aware that there are over 300 receptor sites throughout the body for progesterone. It is beyond the scope of this article to delineate all the potential benefits and actions of this hormone. Consider what I discuss here an introduction to the clinical benefits of this hormone. Let me begin by stating a known fact men and women have identical hormones. Although this fact seems obvious, it is commonly not appreciated. Progesterone is usually considered a womans hormone, perhaps related to the fact that its role in the male body is never mentioned. Interestingly, I consider it the second most important hormone in men after testosterone. One of the main roles progesterone plays in males, as well as females, is to control insulin production. Insulin is obviously an important hormone, but excess quantities can be very detrimental. It is the number one cause of obesity in this country, it is perhaps the number one cause of essential hypertension, it is the number one cause of type II diabetes and it is probably responsible for most of the complications of diabetes with regard to nerve and blood vessel damage, it raises cholesterol levels and is the number one hormone that speeds up the aging process. If you consider that progesterone is the number one hormone that helps keep insulin levels down you can immediately appreciate the tremendous therapeutic effect this hormone has with regard to treating weight problems, blood pressure problems, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, etc. I do not consider progesterone alone to be the panacea for all these problems. But used in conjunction with other therapeutic approaches it provides the ability to enhance whatever approach is being utilized. For example, progesterone by itself is very effective for preventing an over-production of insulin. People who start on progesterone cream are very quick to note that they no longer get sleepy in the afternoon between 3PM and 4PM, and they dont get sleepy while driving or after eating. These are the classic times that insulin levels peak. However, progesterone cannot compete with a diet that is high in carbohydrate content this situation produces an amount of insulin that overwhelms the ability of progesterone to control it. Utilizing certain bio-identical hormones can actually be considered the next step beyond Atkins to maintain weight control. As men approach the age of 50, hormonal changes start becoming more evident. This is about the time that men stop producing progesterone; accordingly, they start developing weight around the midriff because their insulin levels are now higher. In concert with this drop in progesterone, their testosterone levels continue to drop and their estradiol levels start to rise. After the menopause, whether surgical or natural, women continue to make estradiol. However, mens level of estradiol is commonly higher than womens after the age of 50. When looking at estradiol, keep in mind that it is a hormone that contributes to six different cancers in women breast, cervical, vaginal, ovarian, uterine, and colon. It is the only known cause for cancer of the uterus (except for Tamoxifen). The prostate and the uterus embryologically are derived from the same tissue. Therefore, logically it would appear that estradiol is the probable cause of prostate cancer. Progesterone very likely prevents every known cancer cause by estradiol. Since prostatic cancer mainly occurs in men at a time that their progesterone levels are low or non-existant and that their estradiol levels are high would it not seem logical that giving men natural, bio-identical progesterone cream might prevent prostate cancer? A classic example of the importance of progesterone in men may be best exemplified by one of my patients who presented himself to me by saying, Doc, if you dont help me, Im going to commit suicide. He was 57 years old, obviously depressed, and also complained of severe hypoglycemia, asthma, and he had osteoporosis. At the time of his visit he was taking a combination of liothyronine (Cytomel) 25mcg, Armour thyroid and Actonel. Review of previous records indicated that he had been on a variety of regimens for depression and asthma including Paxil, Serzone, Effexar, Singular, and Flonase. He had been on a constantly changing thyroid regimen for over 20 years. Prior lab studies showed a persistently low T4 and usually elevated T3 levels. TSH levels were always around the 0.01 range. This latter fact exemplifies a classic error done by most doctors who evaluate thyroid studies. They consider a low TSH as an indication of too much thyroid being given. They are perhaps unaware that there are several different types of hypothyroidism. The most common is primary hypothyroidism where the thyroid itself is unable to produce enough thyroid. The most common cause of this is a result of Hashimotos thyroiditis. However, there is also an entity called secondary hypothyroidism. This occurs when the pituitary fails to produce enough thyroid stimulating hormone and results in a hypofunctioning thyroid that is frequently misinterpreted as being hyperfunctioning. In any event, the reams of old records he brought with him were virtually worthless. He told me that he had spent over $200,000 in the two years prior to his seeing me; he had been all over the country consulting with the top doctors in the most prestigious medical centers. In addition to their failing to figure out what was wrong with him, they neglected to realize he had adult ADHD, fibromyalgia, and restless leg syndrome. Initial lab studies showed: Free T4 0.8 [0.8-1.8] NG/DL Free T3 816 [230-420] PG/DL TSH medication order ultram where to buy tramadol buy tramadol tablets no prescription saturdaydelivery tramadol

New Year Resolution - Part 1

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Tracie Johanson December finds many of us busy, busy, busy! The Christmas shopping season has already started, and many of us are also planning holiday parties or events. If there’s ever a time when we find ourselves too busy to exercise, this may be it! However, NOW is the time when it’s especially critical for us to really focus on our exercise. Why? Several reasons come to mind: 1) Most people consume more calories in December (holiday treats, anyone?) 2) Most people exercise less in December (holiday parties, anyone?) 3) Most people consume are more sedentary in December (it’s COLD outside!) As the old saying goes: “Failure to plan is planning to fail”. Many of us have worked hard to make progress towards our fitness goals, and the last thing we want to do is see that progress fly out the window this month! For those of us that haven’t yet started on our road to fitness, the last thing we want is to “dig the hole deeper” by putting on another 5-10 holiday pounds! Make no mistake about it…..holiday pounds can accumulate faster than a first snowfall if we’re not careful. The best thing to do is approach December with a plan. What kind of plan? A PLAN FOR FITNESS. A PLAN FOR SUCCESS. Now, any management guru will tell us that for a plan to succeed it must be “SMART”: a) Specific b) Measureable c) Achievable d) Realistic e) Time Bound To be Specific, our plan must be as accurate as Santa’s naughty-or-nice list. “I will be healthier in December” just doesn’t cut it. What does “healthier” mean? Specific means nailing down an action such as exercise, diet, sleep, or whatever. The action must be one that you can point at and define. Measureable means that our plan must have the capability to be measured. So instead of saying “I will exercise more in December” we should say “I will exercise 3 times each week throughout December”. See the difference? When a plan is measureable it’s easy to determine if we were successful - either we exercised 3 times each week in December or we didn’t. There’s no wiggle room! Third, our plan must be achievable. A plan that is not achievable will only make us sad, frustrated and depressed. Let’s not go there! Sure, we could plan to exercise 7 days each week…..but is that achievable? Could we really do that all month? Probably not. Let’s face it, we really ARE busy in December and 3 exercise sessions each week in December is probably more achievable. Next, our plan must be realistic. Now, forget all about the infomercials that promise “YOU CAN LOSE 50 POUNDS BY NEXT WEEK” because that’s simply not realistic. It took us years to put on this weight, so let’s not be tempted to think we can take it off in mere weeks. A realistic plan would be to lose 1-2 pounds of fat each week. That’s what our doctors recommend. Lose weight any faster than that and we’re likely losing muscle and water weight instead of fat…..not a good idea! Finally, our plan must be time bound. In other words, we must set a deadline. It’s not enough to simply say “We’re going to exercise more” or even “We’re going to exercise more in December” because time slips by and pretty soon, BOOM, it’s Christmas already! Having a time bound plan means that we commit to taking specific actions at specific times. Let’s attack December with a good plan! Here are some examples to get us started: + “I will exercise 4 times per week throughout December with the goal of losing 1.5 pounds per week (on average). My exercise will be at the gym each Monday, Wednesday and Friday with a 25 minute walk over the weekend.” + “I will drink 12 ounces of water and eat a protein bar before each and every holiday party this month. Once at the party, I will enjoy myself and TASTE all the treats available, but I will NOT eat any fried foods at any holiday party.” It’s important that we all have a plan this month. Failure to plan is planning to fail! So let’s take a few minutes to write out our own plan on paper, and then let’s post it where we’ll see it every day. Let’s plan to succeed this month! * Copyright 2005 Pick Up The Pace. Getting Married? 7 Topics to Discuss Before the Big Day

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Kimberly Talley Happy marriages are assembled. They dont come perfectly packaged. Like building a house, you need parts, materials, and tools to make it stand strong. Its your choiceDo you want to live under a roof thats structurally sound, or one thats shaky with missing parts? Surely, you want the roof that will withstand a rainstorm. Yet, many couples dont know how to build a structurally sound marriage. Once you know how, its in your hands to build a marriage that works. The sooner you realize that you have to build a happy marriage, the sooner youll have one. So, here are 7 basic principles for a happy marriage. Dont despair if your relationship needs work in these areas. Its your awareness of these topics and your willingness to address them that matters the most! 1. A happy marriage starts with a happy single. Although you are a couple, youre still an individual with ideas and passions that are a part of you. Youre sense of joy and happiness is your feeling, and therefore your responsibility. We cant make people do things, just as our partners cant make us happy. So, stay in touch with what you love about life. What are your strengths, and whats wonderful about you? These qualities are important to live by everyday. Decide to be a fulfilled individual, and youll likely have a fulfilling marriage. 2. Talk about the importance of talking. A Lack of communication between couples is the number one reason for marital stress. The fastest way to put strain on a marriage is to hold back your feelings. Its not fair to expect your spouse to know your thoughts. If theres something you must say, then say it confidently from a loving place. The fact is, people who dont speak-up RARELY get their needs met. 3. You CANNOT change your partner. What are his/her patterns, behaviors, hobbies, and interests now? You can count on the fact that theyll continue these patterns, and, when married, youll feel them more intensely. If he loves football now, hell always love it. If she hangs out with her friends on Saturday nights, then some Saturday nights shell still hang out. Patterns and behaviors of your partner rarely change after marriage, they only magnify. Marry your partner for who they are today; Not who you want them to be tomorrow. 4. Leave the past in the past. If youre getting ready to walk down the aisle, then youve already decided to accept your fiancs past. If your partner has a history thats unclear or unsettling for you, clear it up now. Otherwise, let it go. Even more, if past relationships remain heartbreaking, share them with your partner. If theres more deep-seated pain from the past, seek out a counselor or coach to gain some closure. Whatever you do, dont just ignore a particularly painful past. It has a way of re-surfacing in the present, and can complicate and confuse your feelings in your current relationship. 5. Discuss the sensitive topics of money. Financial stress has the power to divide the strongest marriages. Consider these questions now: Do either of you have lots of personal debt? Have you both fully disclosed how much you owe, and whose responsible for paying the debt once youre married? Whats the status of these accounts? Are they current, late, bankrupt? Joint accounts or separate? This information should not be a surprise when you return from paradise. If you havent told your partner about some outstanding debt, its time to do it. Then, ask yourself why youre holding back, and re-read step 2 above. 6. How many kids, if any? Lets face it, youve either always known you want to have children, or contemplated living a child-free life. Either way, if you want one kid and he wants three, understand that you may both change your mind once a baby is born. But, if one person wants no children and the other does, it significantly changes your future plans together. These critical facts should NOT be surprises. They can be deal-breakers if you strongly disagree. 7. Share your biggest dreams and passions, then listen to your partners. Support and encourage your partner to fulfill his/her passion. If youve always wanted to start a business, be home with your kids, live overseas, or go to Peru, tell your partner now. In order to create a happy marriage, you must live your life fully. This doesnt mean you both have to experience every dream, but if you can simply share these dreams, your partner will learn more about whats truly inside of you. By allowing your partner inside your deepest thoughts, you strengthen your bond, and connect on a higher, more spiritual level. Do more than enjoy the wedding of your dreams. Create a lifetime of happiness. Remember, happy, healthy individuals create happy, healthy relationships.
